To travel along the Rhone River by bicycle is an adventure. In fact, the Rhone is one of the largest rivers in Europe. This trip follows the Rhone River along its 229 km, always in Switzerland, and using cycling paths all the way.
Our luggage is transported every day by a minivan, so we cycle with total comfort, without any weight. We sleep in comfortable hotels and are guided by a professional mountain guide.
Itinerary
Day 1
We meet in Brig. If we have enough time, we enjoy a wonderful hike with imposing views of the Aletsch glacier, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 2 :: Brig - Sion :: 61 km
The first stage is basically flat and easy-going. We have the Rhone River always by our side. The historic church of Sion is seen clearly long before we reach the town.
Day 3 :: Sion - Aigle :: 57 km
Today we see what are considered the highest vineyards in Europe. Seated high in the Alps, these vineyards start at 500 meters and seem to touch the clouds. At midday we reach the town of Martigny, founded by the Romans as shelter for the army during the Gallic Wars.
Day 4 :: Aigle - Lausanne :: 43 km
From Aigle to Lake Geneva the path is as pleasant as it gets. The Rhone runs slowly, in contrast with the imposing walls of the Muverans massif. Lake Geneva is one the biggest European lakes, and close to the town of Villeneuve, the Rhone empties into its waters. It will emerge from the lake some 100 km ahead, in the city of Geneva. In Montreux we enjoy the beauty of the Chillon castle.
Day 5 :: Lausanne - Nyon :: 37 km
In Lausanne we can visit the Olympic museum and the cathedral, which dominates the city. Today we cycle along vineyards with excellent views of Lake Geneva.
Day 6 :: Nyon - Geneva :: 28 km
We leave Nyon, founded by Julius Cesar in 58 B.C., and follow the cycling path through vineyards and green fields. Geneva represents the end of this adventure, with the Rhone River emerging from Lake Geneva.
Day 7 :: Geneva - Geneva :: 0 km
In the morning we visit Geneva, this time without our bikes. We then bid farewell until our next adventure together.
