Ísafjörður, capital of the western fjords of Iceland

We have already talked to you about the awesome cross-country skiing and sailing trip in Iceland and how much we love this country. That is why today we will know a little better the locality of Ísafjörður, which is the starting point of this fabulous adventure trip.

Ísafjörður is the main commercial center of the western fjords of Iceland, although there live about 4,000 people. It is set in a beautiful spot, on a white sand bank glued to the beautiful bay of Skutulsfjörður by the sea and a mountain range that protects its backs. As you can imagine, the view is beautiful.

This locality has become the most demanded destination of this region of the country by foreign visitors, because of its location, the city constitutes an excellent base camp to explore those beautiful lands, while inhospitable, in particular by the Reserve Natural of Hornstrandir.

Ísafjörður is a city prepared to welcome visitors, as there are some attractions such as the Wetfjords Maritime Museum, a tourist information office, hotels, restaurants, and shops.

However, on our trip to Iceland we have a magnificent sailboat, and after skiing every day, we sail, and anchor the sailboat at a different point, ready to ski the next day in another fjord.
