And as everything arrives, this weekend we have been in the province of Extremadura with the proposal of Tree Lovers that we have been launching.

The output has been a success thanks to all the components of the activity. Many entrepreneur people, friendly, nature defender and eager to teach and at the same time learn. Also, we have had the collaboration of the General Direction of Tourism of Extremadura, APRODERVI and the City council of Cañamero.

The departure was Saturday at 10 am from Plaza España, after a brief presentation we set off. We arrived at Cañamero at about 14:15 and we were received with a warm welcome from Isaac of TurExtremadura. After we had settled in the accommodations, the meeting time was set for 16:30. Our group was able to taste the bar “El del Medio” some delicious potatoes with cheese, spinach croquettes, tripe and a delicious etc for the modest price of 6 euros.

At 16h30 we headed for a GR towards Cueva Chiquita or Álvarez where we were told about legends and realities of remote times, and we could see tiny rock paintings. Walking parallel to the river Ruecas we arrive at the reservoir of Cancho del Fresno, and after some time walking, we arrive at the Interpretation Center ZEPA, where they explained in detail flora and fauna of the area. After a presentation and with the evening upon us, we went to the Ruiz Torres wineries, where after the explanation of its history we delighted the tasting of several white and red wines together with a few chorizo tapas and Extremadura cheese mmm mmm. After the tasting, we retook the bus, and a dinner based on tapas was waiting for us at the center of Cañamero, what a good life at Extremadura!! I attest to its great gastronomic fame. With a full stomach, we said goodbye until the next day.

On Sunday we met up at 10 am. After loading the picnics on the bus, we headed towards the plantation in an area known as La Raña. The forestry agent was waiting for us in the port of Puertollano just where a small route started that would take us to the plantation area. He explained how a fire had devastated the area (about 12,000 hectares) and the various human motives and interests to do so, embarrassing! Although 12,000 hectares are a lot, the intention is what counts and YokmoK together with friends bloggers like Travelling DijucaFotonazosQueriendo MoverseHi MarketingEl mundo a tus piesCon mapa y GPSMi Patria son mis Zapatos3 Viajes al díaNaturalCiudad DormidaEl primer Paso y Tierra sin limites, (If we have forgotten some, give us a shout) and also non bloggers friends, were there to compensate for the CO2 we emitted in the trips of YokmoK and try to help an area like Cañamero regain its forest because despite believing that Extremadura is dry you must know that it has 40% of the country’s freshwater reserves. We were able to choose between planting cork oaks, oaks and arbutus, what a pleasure! The agent explained how to look through a tiny mirror at the end of a tube (which is set to prevent deer from eating the plants) to see if the tree that was planted above was alive or dry. The group dispersed in search of dry trees, and with beak and desire, everyone planted their tree.

The return to the bus was by another way to be able to see canary pines that have been brought to the peninsula.

Once we got to the bus, we took the picnic and headed to Guadalupe, where our guide explained with extreme delicacy enough historical data of the area. We started on the façade of the Monastery of Guadalupe, and after walking around it, we went to walk along a wonderful Jewish street, where he said goodbye to us.

Fifteen minutes later we took the bus to Madrid. Again in Plaza España with some other tree of memory in hand and wanting to return to share an experience of this type.

Thanks so much to all the attendees for their involvement and enthusiasm in the Tree Lovers Project. We are already planning next year’s tree planting. See you soon, with a pick and shovel, helping the environment a little. Until next Tree Lovers!

    EL ÁRBOL:
    Viajero, escucha:
