This is a multi-adventure trip in the far north of Sweden, 200 kilometers inside the Arctic Circle, and not far from North Cape. In this territory lies the last remote wilderness in Western Europe: Lapland. We do snowshoeing; drive a dog sledge and a snowmobile; and practice cross-country skiing over frozen arctic lakes.
Itinerary
Day 1
Meeting at Kiruna airport at 12h30. Gather and transfer to Abisko Turiststation. After check in, we start a hike in a huge frozen lake just below us.
Day 2
After a hearty breakfast, we start the hike towards Lapporten (the Door of Lapland). It's an easy hike, right in the middle of nowhere, where silence is always present. Your mountain guide will give you a lesson on how to use the equipment.
Day 3
Today we snowshoe along the Kungsleden (King's trail).
Day 4
We pack our luggage and move to Kiruna. This afternoon we practice cross country skiing at night. Anyone say 'fear'?
Day 5
Today we meet our friendly dogs and do some exhilarating dog sledging. The dogs are eager to start a day trip in the wilderness of the Arctic. They are howling and pulling their harnesses to get moving; as soon as the anchor is lifted up, the dogs fall silent and eagerly start pulling the sled through the woods and over the plains. We have lunch during the break around the fire.
Day 6
We spend the morning doing cross country skiing in the outskirts of Kiruna. After lunch, we get ready for a snowmobile adventure through Swedish Lapland’s last wilderness. We have dinner in a hut in the middle of the forest and contemplate the northern lights.
Day 7
Today we meet the Sami people, the indigenous people of Lapland. We learn their traditions, lifestyle, and enjoy a wonderful meal prepared by them.
Day 8
It is time to visit the famous Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi, the world's largest hotel made of ice and snow. We take a thorough visit and enjoy its bar, church, hotel rooms, etc, everything made of ice.
Day 9
Transfer to the airport after breakfast. No goodbyes, this has only been the beginning.
