Zermatt is dominated by one of the greatest symbols of Switzerland, the unmistakable Matterhorn or Cervino. Zermatt is considered one of the best destinations in Switzerland to practice walking and hiking perhaps because of the sublime beauty of the Matterhorn, and without any doubt thanks to the absence of motorized vehicles and the atmosphere of tradition present in its streets.
Itinerary
Day 1
Greeting at Geneva airport and transfer to the village of Zermatt. Zermatt is the cradle par excellence of mountain climbing in Switzerland, and along with Chamonix, the world reference for mountain sports.
Days 2 to 6
With more than 400 kilometers of footpaths, the possibilities in Zermatt are almost limitless. The excellent system of cable cars allows us to gain altitude easily and begin the hikes at almost 3000 meters. The average altitude of our walks is 2200 meters, so magnificence is assured. Who can doubt it with 29 tops at more than 4000 meters? Footpaths at the base of the Matterhorn, trails that take us to glaciers, or alpine lakes where the reflection of the mountains is perfect. We take the highest cable car in Europe; Klein Matterhorn, reaching 3883 meters, takes us right into the world of glaciers and the high mountain.
Due to the high altitude of almost all the footpaths, advanced planning would be a bit dangerous. That is why we make the decisions on a day-by-day basis, and taking into account the climate, we decide the most appropriate walks. Height does not mean difficulty and all the hikes are easy and accessible to everybody.
We have a few destinations that are a must, like the Stellisee and Schrwarzsee lakes, or the crest of Hirli, where we will almost certainly see the famous Edelweiss. And of course, we visit the highest hotel of the Alps; at 3100 meters, the Gornergrat hotel offers a spectacle worth telling our grandchildren one day.
Day 7
Today is our last day of adventure. In the morning, if time allows, we do a short hike. We then depart for the airport in Geneva, arriving at around 14h30, where we bid farewell until our next adventure together.
