Day 1 – Transfer to Zermatt

Meet at 15h30 at Geneva airport. Quick transfer to the village of Zermatt. Zermatt is the cradle par excellence of the mountain climbing in Switzerland, and along with Chamonix, world-wide reference for mountain sports.

Zermatt is dominated by one of the greatest symbols of Switzerland, the unmistakable Matterhorn or Cervino. Perhaps by the sublime beauty of the Matterhorn, and without any doubt thanks to the absence of motorized vehicles and the atmosphere of tradition that is breathed in its streets, Zermatt can be considered one of the best tourist destinations in Switzerland.

Days 2 & 3 & 4 & 5 - Hiking in Zermatt

With more than 400 kilometers of footpaths, the possibilities in Zermatt are almost limitless. The excellent system of cableways allows us to gain altitude easily and begin the walks at almost 3000 meters. The average altitude of our walks is of 2200 meters, so the spectacularity is assured. With 29 tops of more than 4000 meters, who can put that in doubt? Footpaths that cross the base of the Matterhorn, ways that takes us until to glacier edge, or alpine lakes where the reflection of the mountains is perfect. We will take the highest cablecar in the world; Klein Matterhorn, reaching 3883 meters, will takes us right into the world of glaciers and the high mountain.

Due to high altitude of almost all the footpaths, an anticipated planning would be a bit dangerous. That is why we make the decisions on a day to day bases, and taking into account the climate, we decide the most appropriate walks. Height does not mean difficulty and all the routes are easy and accessible to everybody.

We have a few destinations which are a must, like the lakes Stellisee and Schrwarzsee, or the crest of Hirli, where we will almost certainly see the famous Edelweiss. And of course, we spend one afternoon in the highest hotel of the Alps; at 3100 meters, the Gornergrat hotel offers a spectacle worth of telling our grandchildren one day.
